Interior Design and Smart Lighting
Interior Design and Smart Lighting
The art and science of interior design are captivating!
From imagining how wall colours would reflect the light to designing an ergonomic kitchen layout, every aspect has its own challenges.
With smart home technology coming into play things could get even more complicated.
Smart home devices do not need to be thought of as additional, intrusive, odd looking things on the walls. They should rather complement the design. That’s why incorporating them into the interior from the beginning will help to create unique spaces tailored to an individual's day-to-day preferences.
Take lighting for example. We use shades, blinds, curtains to control natural light. When the sun goes down, we turn on artificial light using light fixtures with switches. Normally we would think of those two areas as a collection of bulbs, light switches and window coverings. Controlling multiple lights would require multi gang switches that are confusing to use and not aesthetically appealing. Closing and opening blinds would take a walk to each window, sometimes reaching out over the obstacles.
But what if it’s all operated by one single button from any room in your home?
One touch and automated shades operate quietly in tandem with light fixtures. Dimming multiple lights with a single touch, or opening shades using another button on the same keypad?
Multi button backlit smart keypads with different designs and custom engravings can be utilized to match interior design of the space. Not only do they provide custom look and feel that compliments the space, they also enable precise and intuitive lighting control.
Smart light dimmers and keypads come in different colours and finishes to match any design, be it “Designer Gloss White” or “Satin Mocha Stone”, there are options available. Different materials are also offered such as glass, stainless steel, some brands even offer forged metal, wood, custom fabric and wallpaper finishes.
Besides setting up custom lighting scenes and precise dim levels of lights, smart lighting systems increase aesthetics of the interior space. With some solutions it is possible to eliminate banks of multi-gang switches with attractive single gang keypads to minimize wall clutter.
Consider having white colour light switches in six gang monstrosity on the wall in the dining room for everyone to see versus a single backlit keypad that provides way more functionality in addition to being attractively looking… The choice is obvious!
Smart automated blinds and curtains that work in concert with artificial lighting further add to functionality and aesthetics.
Automated window coverings do not need to be dull. Smart blinds are offered in a variety of textures, colours and materials.
On top of everything there is no need for separate special control for automated window coverings. Raising and lowering of blinds is done through the same keypad that controls lighting. Did we also mention they operate quietly? No more buzzing motors or clicking sounds.
Incorporating smart home technology - smart lighting system in particular - into interior design projects from very beginning will help to create unique and functional spaces. In many cases it will improve on original ideas and add additional never before thought of features to the project.
